Inlays and Onlays

Information About This Service

Inlays and onlays are an indirect restorative option when teeth have decay or are cracked or broken and need repairing. Inlays and onlays are made outside of the mouth and will fit the specific size of the cavity. The inlay or onlay is then cemented onto the tooth making the treated tooth fully functional again. Inlays and onlays are mainly used on premolar and molar teeth when there has been too much damage for the tooth to support a basic filling.

What is the difference between an inlay and an onlay?
An inlay is used when the large chewing surface has been damaged and it will not support a basic filling.
An onlay is similar to an inlay but it is a little larger and can repair a cavity right in the central part of the chewing surface as well as one or more of the tooth cusps (the raised points of the biting surface on the tooth).
