Implants

Information About This Service

Dental implants are commonly used to replace one or several missing teeth. Dental implants are the best way of replacing missing teeth and can provide a better quality of life to a patient.

What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a small but strong titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone and replicates a root. Once the dental implant is placed it is then used to hold either a crown, bridge or denture which will then look like normal teeth.

Can anyone have dental implants?
Most people can have dental implants but unfortunately there is a criteria that needs to be checked before we can start any implant treatment. This includes the patients medical history. There are some medical factors that may affect a person from having dental implants so we would normally take a thorough medical history from all of our patients prior to starting any implant treatment. Other factors that may affect if a person can have dental implants includes the current condition of a patient mouth and if they have a significant amount of bone present to support the implant.
All of these factors can be discussed in more detail at an initial consultation with one of our implant dentists.

Is dental implant treatment painful?
Many patients often think that a procedure like dental implants will be painful where as in actual fact most people say that there is little to no discomfort when having implant treatment. Local anesthetic is always used during implant placement and after the implant is placed mild soreness can be treated with over the counter painkillers.
